题 目:Supramolecular Chemistry with Cryptands: Improved Complexation of Paraquat Derivatives by the Formation of Cryptand Structures

Abstract:Self-assembled structures, such as pseudorotaxanes, are attractive to materials science for their reversibility at the molecular level, and therefore for their ability to correct structural defects, an option unavailable for traditional, covalently bonded systems. However, in order for a self-assembling, non-covalent macromolecular system to possess properties sufficient to compete with covalently bonded polymers, it must exhibit a strong association between its components. Paraquat derivatives have been widely used as guests in supramolecular chemistry to construct numerous complexes with large crown ethers. With the aim to prepare large supramolecular systems efficiently from small building blocks, we are interested in improving complexation of paraquats by design of optimized hosts, such as cryptands. In this seminar, we will discuss how to design and prepare cryptand hosts for paraquat derivatives and studies of cryptand/paraquat complexes by proton NMR characterization, mass spectrometry, and X-ray analysis. Our studies demonstrated that significant improvement in stabilities from crown ether/paraquat complexes to cryptand/paraquat pseudorotaxanes is the result of the combination of the preorganization of the cryptand hosts and the introduction of additional and optimized binding sites.

黄飞鹤博士1973年出生。1996年本科毕业于合肥工业大学,1999年获得中国科技大学高分子化学与物理硕士学位,2005年获弗吉尼亚理工大学有机与高分子化学博士学位,导师为超分子化学领域国际权威之一Harry W. Gibson教授。现为犹它大学化学系博士后,导师为超分子化学领域国际权威之一, 美国科学院院士, JACS主编Peter J. Stang教授。

黄博士主要从事超分子化学方面的研究工作,已在国际核心期刊上发表第一作者论文19篇及英文专著一章,包括6篇JACS,7篇CHEM COMMUN, 2篇JOC, 和1篇Progress in Polymer Science综述。黄博士获得了很多的奖励,到目前为止主要有弗吉尼亚理工大学William Preston 奖,国家优秀自费留学生奖学金,和The Sigma Xi Society Research Award。
